Discovering the potential of NEET’s. Workshops for young adults (NEETs) in partnering countries.

Poland – Voivodeship Labour Office in Katowice

From September 24th to 25th 2019 workshops for young adults (Neets) took place at the Centre of Social Services in Piekary Śląskie in the frame of project Erasmus + entitled „Stop being couch potatoes! Developing social and entrepreneurial skills for Neets”.

The training from the increasing social and entrepreneurial competences was realized by guidance counselors from Voivodeship Labour Office in Katowice.

Training scenarios, on which young people worked, were elaborated during the project implementation. Examples of exercises concerned the following points:

• answering questions in quiz from the on-line platform what type of couch potato do you have inside and watching the motivational video with Artur from the Foundation Leżę i Pracuję;
• learning how to create portfolio – tool (internet application) for supporting the evidence throughout lifelong learning, the collection of evidence for possession of skills and experience. It allows to upload certificates, photos etc. and prepare CV;
• behaviour recognizing pro-and-anti-assertive;
• tests, exercises and games for recognition of characteristics of persons with entrepreneurial attitude.

Romania – Young Initiative

On the 30th of December 2019, we had the honor to work with 25 young people from vulnerable contexts in developing their social and financial skills. The activities took place in Ploiești (Romania) at Concordia Romania in the frame of the project „Stop being couch potatoes! Developing social and entrepreneurial skills for Neets”, founded by the European Commission, trough ERASMUS+ program.

The scenarios for both activities were created by Young Initiative experts team and adjusted by the trainers, during the implementation of the project. In order to implement those workshops, Young Initiative Association recruited and trained 8 trainers trainee.

The first part of the day they were dedicated to social skills.  The young people had to opportunity to:

  • develop the ability to communicate verbal and non-verbal
  • to increase empathy for the people around
  • to increase the assertiveness
  • to develop the ability to resolve problems

In the second part of the day the activity was focused on financial skills. During 4 hours, the participants learned more about:

  • The personal budget
  • How to invest money in their future
  • How to take difficult decisions

Czech Republic – Genderové informační centrum NORA

On 11th December 2019 workshop for young adults (NEETs) took place in Brno in the Czech Republic. Being part of the project „Stop being couch potatoes! Developing social and entrepreneurial skills for Neets” the organization NORA conducted one of the project`s workshops with the aim to enhance social abilities as time management as well as one`s marketability on the labor market. One of the points of focus was also social media in relation to employment, writing CV or using time management tools while stressing the importance of safe online behavior.
The training scenario was developed for, as well as conducted in, low-threshold center. Therefore the scenario was as barrier-free and easy to participate as possible, while still fostering one`s abilities. Examples of exercises concerned the following points:
  • discovering one`s own routine and time planning, finding ways how to improve it
  • correction of exemplary CVs and cover letters
  • sharing experience with the online world
  • energizing activities with the aim to compile schedule and get as many points as possible
  • training of communication in a professional environment
